TOUR DETAILS OF JUNGLE TREKKER HOLIDAYS
Wat Dtao Dum. The Forest Monks Retreat.

A Truly Unique Experience.

Although we may not see the monks as they live secluded in the forest and only come to the small remote temple early in the morning for the meal offerings and prayers, we will enjoy this unique offroad experience to drive up to the temple set deep in the forest shrouded in the forest mist, the 30 km track has over 70 river crossings with areas of thick bamboo and beautiful forest terrain with huge hard wood trees and delicate wild flowers, the final ascent, the track climbs high up into the hills just below the cloud line and on to the small remote temple set in the top of the forest covered hills, the track is steep and challenging with magnificent views of the forest below.

Day 1. Leave Bangkok and head West to Kanchanaburi and on to Sai Yok where we stay at the a river side resort on the Mighty River Kwai.

Day 2. We leave the resort take a short drive and then on to the track up to Wat Dtao Dum where we reach the temple early afternoon, we then head to the forest ranger station where we camp for the night*, a very peaceful setting of small rivers, trees and lush grass surrounded by the hills of the forest.

Day 3. We leave the camp and head back offroad for some 20kms and then on to Sai Yok and back to Bangkok.

* If small groups are particularly interested in the Buddhist way of life it is possible to camp at the Temple over night and take part in the meal offering ceremony for the monks early in the morning and stay for the short prayer session, the temple rarely sees visitors because of the very difficult approach deep in the secluded forest.

Cost: per person, on application. (Price will be determined on the number of people in the party, if experienced offroad drivers want to drive the JTH trucks themselves or if JTH has to supply drivers).
